The response to the COVID-19 pandemic has compromised civic space and civil liberties in many countries across the global: governments have been taking drastic measures in the name of citizen’s health and this has led to restriction in the ability of the communities to raise their voice and influence decision-making processes

Although the Freedom of Information bill (FOI) was signed into law in 2011, most states have refused to comply with its provisions, citing none domestications by state assemblies as reason for non-compliance.

The unavailability of credible and reliable database of civil society organizations in Katsina State working on expanding civic space and raising awareness on human rights issues is a major challenge in efficient networking among civil societies working to overcome obstacles of shrinking civic space
