Child Abuse

Child abuse is the physical neglect, exploitation and trafficking of a child under10years especially in the hands of a parent or guardian.

The consequence of child maltreatment or abuse is that the affected child feels like an outcast, faces stigmatization, alongside lifelong damages to the physical, mental health and this can ultimately slow a country's economic and social development.

Children are the victims of abuse and should not be blamed.

Preventive ways Parent/Guardian should take to stop Child abuse are:

1. Understand your children

2. Watch your words

3. Keep your children healthy

4. Take a time out

5. Get control of yourself before you discipline a child.

Child Labor

Child Labor is depriving a child from not attaining to their potential and it will affect their mental development and expose them to harmful injuries.

Child Labor cannot be encourage in any way of life because it will prevent a child not attain to his goal in life it’s also affect development in our Society because a child that is properly empower cannot be useful to the society and the country at Large. Government should pass a decree into Law especially with the sub-Saharan region in Africa and a penalty for anyone who abuse the right of a child should face the law because that can create fear to society and lead to the birth control because of the consequences of child Labor

Meanwhile, a child should be given the opportunity to exhibit their talent and bring out their potential.

Conclusively, parents should live up to their expectation to give his/her child the required education that will enable their child to be useful to the society and to the country at large.

CHALLENGES FACING THE GIRL CHILD

Most communities and families believe that the girl child has no value to their community or family. In some states and communities, women are subjected to forced marriages, low standard of living, and poor educational background.

The inequality and disadvantages that girls face stem from three interwoven causes: child marriage, child pregnancy, and child labor, all of which are exacerbated by poverty and have insidious consequences on the outcomes of these girls‘ lives.

HUMAN RIGHT AND GIRL CHILD

The human rights of children and the girl-child are explicitly set out in the Convention on the Rights of the Child, the most widely ratified human rights Treaty in History.

• Right to education of all levels

• Right to protection from all physical or mental abuse

• Right to information about healthy sexuality and reproduction etc.

CLIMATE CHANGE

Climate Change is one of the most complex issue facing the world today and it needs to be addressed. The rising temperature, global warming, rainfall pattern, extreme weather. This affects the environment at large.

The United Nation Framework convention on Climate Change has organized several convention on climate change inviting the world leaders to tackle Climate related issues. Asabe Shehu Yar’Adua Foundation (ASYARFS) was in attendance in line with the United Nation on the events on Climate issues.

All of the negative consequences increase their magnitude on Agriculture. For instance; Droughts create wildfires which in turn destroy the crops that are basically for consumption.

We need to stop these Climate issuesbecause we have the knowledge, power and ability to stop the effects of Climate Change.

HUNGER

Goal 2 of SDG of the United Nations;

Hunger is a craving or urgent need for food or a specific nutrient. It has now become a global problem. More than 820 million people in the world suffer from chronic hunger. It is a major contributing factor in premature death. Ending hunger and achieving food security remain major challenges for people everywhere. To end hunger we must tackle its root causes. We need to end hunger to ensure the Developing and Under-Developing Countries have access to the foods and livelihood opportunities needed to live securely and comfortably. We already possess the knowledge and the resources to end hunger, now we need to use our assets in the most effective way to make positive change.

While ending world hunger is of course not an easy task, and few people even with the best of intentions have the same approaches, it’s not idealistic to say that within our lifetime we absolutely can ensure that no person goes hungry again.

POVERTY

Poverty has been one of the greatest enemy in the 21st Century, every nation is faced with different level of poverty. Poverty is hunger. It is a state of being poor.

Developing, under-developed as well as developed nations live in poverty especially in developing areas of West and Sub-sahara Africa. Poverty can be tackled by the equal distribution of income and it must benefit all individuals, the poor masses should be educated in order to help the nations economic development, education teaches everyone about their right and by teaching the poor masses or setting up a skill acquisition for them, it will help in the growth and expansion of the country.

One way of reducing poverty is by educating poor people so that they can contribute to nation’s economic development. Education teaches the poor the growth and expansion of the country.

Poverty is a threat to human security, let’s all unite and eradicate it.

THE LESS PRIVILEDGE

Less privileged are people vulnerable to either physical (disables), financial (poor) problems. Numerous of the society are blessed financially. However, the less privileged have to live from hand to mouth. Less Privileged children do not have access to good health and education.

Taking care of the underprivileged could be carried out through diverse approaches, it is either through financial aid, provision of free health care services, free education, and the rest of them.

It is our duty as believers to bring joy and future to the less privileged among us. If every one of us can just add a little effort to help the less privileged or needy in our society, the world will be a better place for all.

We all are aware of the challenges still confronting women, especially in the Developed, Developing, and Underdeveloped countries.

Sexual harrassment should not be trivialized in the society at large.

CAUSES OF STREET CHILD

Asabe Shehu Yar’Adua Foundation (ASYARF), a non-governmental organization ( NGO), has said the imbalance in the distribution of national wealth was Largely responsible for the rising incidence of a street child.

The President /Founder Dr. Asabe Shehu Yar’Adua, stated this in Street Child Awareness Campaign.

She also said lack of empowerment of the majority in the society has culminated in poverty “making it imperative for the citizenry to attach little importance to the place of value and decency in a battle for survival in a rising competitive environment”

Poverty and its types

Poverty is an economic state where people are experiencing scarcity or the lack of certain commodities that are required for the lives of humans like money and material things. Poverty is a multifaceted concept inclusive of social, economic, and political elements.

Meaning and ways of measuring poverty internationally

Being poor differs dramatically across countries, experts have had a difficult time establishing concrete terms to discuss it.

Since the publication of its Human Development Report (1997), the United Nations has defined poverty as the "denial of choices and opportunities most basic to human development to lead a long, healthy, creative life and enjoy a decent standard of living, freedom, self-esteem, and the respect of others."

We all need to be committed to raising our girl-child and not neglecting the girl-child.

A girl child needs to be confident of her tomorrow and that can only happen where there is a right and safe environment, where she can dream at night and not have nightmares, where she can spread her wings and fly beyond limits.

Covid-19 negative impacts

Covid-19 have plunged many citizens of the nation into recession. Unemployment and salary deduction are parts of the negative impacts of covid-19, mortality rate have also increased rapidly.

Due to the pandemic there have been increased waste and the reduction of recycling. Students could not go to school, they could not proceed with their academic sessions and they were asked to stay back home. No business/school/office work and salaries.

During the covid-19 lockdown, cases of gender based violence were reported, teenage pregnancy, rape cases, cyber crimes, fake news was also rampant due to idleness.

The education system was debilitated, less manufacturing ability, limited international transactions in the aspect of export and import. The airlines also stopped working and could not pay their workers then sack some of their workers.

Rural Women

Rural women play a key role in supporting their households and communities in achieving food and nutrition security, generating income, and improving rural livelihoods and overall well-being. They contribute to Agriculture and rural enterprises and fuel local and global economies. They help to Eradicate Rural poverty and improve the well being of their families

Most women, who work in rural areas are illiterate but limited access to credit, health care, and education are among the many challenges they face, which are further worsened by the global food and economic crises.

With the above knowledge, Asabe Shehu Yar’Adua Foundation (ASYARFS) took it upon herself to empower and enlighten rural women of their importance to the society and how they can play their roles in the economic development of the nation.

Gender Equality

Gender equality is not only a fundamental human right but a necessary foundation for a peaceful and sustainable world and even a prosperous world.

Over the last decades, there has been progress; more girls are going to school, fewer girls are forced into early marriage, more women are in positions of leadership.

Gender equality should be encouraged in our society for the growth of our society. Our girls/women should be trained and treated equally with the boys/men.

Gender equality also encourages a peaceful society i.e when the women are treated fairly there won’t be conflict in our society. It serves as a great relief to our society.

Gender equality has really helped us in the society, in the sense that the women are not jobless, they are not looked down on in the society. Our women should not be looked down on because they make the world at large i.e they dominate parts of the world.

Starting from the trafficking to molestation then the misuse of Children candidacy is one of the pertinent issues yet to be resolve in this region part of Africa (world in diaspora). Cases of Child trafficking have been ongoing in some notable parts of Africa which are due to the cost of living which cannot be guaranteed by our so-called parents or guardians. This cause has grown worse over the years; this has caused a lot of guardians to engage in trafficking. Rape, on the other hand, is on an alarming rate, let’s take for instance the case of Ivory Coast and South Africa. We know that this has been ongoing for years and up till now, no physical solution has been provided.  What of the case of molestation which is worse in Nigeria. https://asyarfs.org/2020/06/10/child-abuse-sub-saharaafrica-nigeria/

In this organized crime, they are recruiters who go to rural areas most especially within the country borders deceive young Boys and Girls about a bright future abroad. The Human Traffickers take advantage of their condition by making fake promises that the only way out of poverty is by migrating out of the community to study and work in the urban cities or abroad to help bring their family out of poverty by sending money back home. Sub-Sahara Africa has financial issues causing significant unemployment and poverty, lack of quality education, conflicts, the weak legal system, corruption, insecurity, are contributing factors of people falling into the trap of Human traffickers. It is a threat to global development, safety, and peace. Indeed trafficking is harmful to the individual trafficked as well as to society at large.
