Description: Subair Kunju foundation is a Trivandrum-based (Kerala, India) charitable trust formed in memory of late Mr. M Subair Kunju on 17th June 2001. It has been registered as a Public charitable Trust. RISA (Riyadh initiative against Substance Abuse) is one of the main activities of the organisation Our vision is to function as one of the excellent global teams in the campaign against substance abuse in the community especially targeting teenagers and young adults so as to protect the community away from the harmful addictive substances as far as possible. Mission Our mission is to conduct continuing awareness classes, documentary shows, poster exhibition, pamphlet distribution and other IEC activities on hazards of tobacco, alcohol and other substance of abuse/ addiction and to provide specific training for selected teachers and teenage students and volunteers from the general community to empower them in the fight against the evil of substance abuse

RISA conducted the first online Training of Trainer (TOT) Program in a Webinar platform. The program inaugurated by the Indian Ambassador to the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia Mr. Ausaf Sayeed was attended by 772 out of 865 registered candidates. Teachers and students from Schools from India and various international Indian schools from Middle-east and other selected volunteers were the target audience. There were 5 sessions such as hazards of Alcoholism and its prevention (Dr. Bharathan A V), hazards of Smoking and its prevention (Dr. Thampi Velappan), Psychological aspects of Substance Abuse (Dr. Naseem Aktar Querishi), Substance Abuse- a social hazard (Mrs. Padmini U Nair) and How to detect drug addiction in children (Dr. Abdul Azeez Subair Kunju) were presented by the RISA expert panel members.

Mr. Karunakaran Pillai, Mrs. Meera Rahman, Nisar Kallara, Shameer Yusaf, Abdul Salam P K, Adv. Aseef Mohammed, Naushad Ismail and various zonal/regional representatives of RISA co-ordinated the event.

RISA has released the first training module- the mini module in DEC 2015 on the occasion of our first teacher training session in Riyadh. In order to further improve the trainer training, a comprehensive module was released in Feb 2017. The module was released in a prestigious function arranged at International Indian School for Boys, Riyadh by the Ambassador of India to KSA, Mr. Ahmed Javed. Our intention is to train 10000 persons in a time-bound manner.

Our mission is to conduct continuing awareness classes, documentary shows, poster exhibition, pamphlet distribution and other IEC activities on hazards of substances of abuse/addiction and to provide specific training for selected teachers and teenage students and volunteers from the general community to empower them in the fight against the evil of substance abuse.

Scope: RISA aims to serve both as an advisory and an educational role on hazards of substance using different tools such as training modules, pamphlets, documentary show, poster exhibitions, interactive sessions, seminars etc.
